What is the main message from this song?
It is basically telling you to fight for you rights but in a non violent peaceful way.  This song is also talking about how parihaka fought for their rights with peaceful protest.

What does 'You can't pull out the roots' refers to?
This refers to when the people tried to take away their land and there culture away to (their roots).  No matter what happens don't let anyone take away who you are.

This song basically sings about the things that the parihaka people did and how they are here today.  It talks about there protest and the trials and challenges that they went through.

When it is so powerful that the whole world admires it and makes it a memorable day.

the Maori and english soilders that died, and the familys that lost loved ones.

To what extent are people affected?
To the point that they need to be remember and admire for.  This basically means that they want to be known for what has happened, think about it and pass on the history to further generations to come.
